Located at the end of Kinder Lane in Danese, West Virginia (Fayette County), Autumn Trail Farmstead gets its name from the colorful, picturesque views experienced driving into the property during fall months.  In warmer seasons, the blue skies and green fields are breathtaking, and when the snow falls, it is truly a winter wonderland.

Past the gated entrance, a well-maintained gravel driveway leads through a pristine forest and into dozens of acres of scenic fields.  The first openland section features a small pond at the far woodline, and as you enter further you will eventually approach the second (main) pond.  To the left of the driveway, "Molly's Pasture" is named for the loyal horse that lived here for over 30 years, and to the right, "Honeybee Meadow" remembers the gallons of honey collected from hives that were once located there.  Both ponds were professionally constructed by the West Virginia DNR to promote the local wildlife population, and it is nearly impossible to visit Autumn Trail without seeing deer, turkey, and other native animals.  The main pond is also stocked with bass, catfish, and bluegill.  When you turn off your vehicle, take a while to enjoy the silence, interrupted only by the birds and the occasional jumping of a fish.  Near the water's edge are a handful of large evergreens, providing year-round shade for fishing and picnics.

Near the fish pond stands the original farmhouse- unoccupied for decades, but still in remarkably solid condition.  Anyone wishing to build a new home at Autumn Trail could use the farmhouse for dry material storage or as a shop, or it isn't out of the question to restore the structure into a usable cabin.  Uniquely, the walls and even the ceilings are original tongue-and-groove boards.  If you opted to remove the structure, there would be value in reclaiming the wood.  There are also multiple pieces of antique furniture included in the farmhouse.  There is a power line run into the property and terminating at a pole near the front of the farmhouse, and directly behind the farmhouse is a cased well.  As of May 2025, the depth to the water surface was about 27 feet, and the depth to the sediment was about 80 feet (over 50 feet of water column).  Install a pump and possibly use this existing well for potable water, or drill a new one when you build your home and use this one for construction / livestock / irrigation.

Behind the farmhouse is a large garden space with excellent soil, an orchard with fruit-bearing apple trees, and a nearby walnut tree grove.  Beyond the pond, "Star's Pasture" (named for Molly's companion) is a hidden gem of acreage with several more shade trees.

Near the previously mentioned power pole, look closely for the entrance to a trail that leads far into the expansive forest at the east side of the property.  After crossing a creek bed, this trail reaches what was once a Christmas tree farm, full of massive fir and pine trees.  A few more open acres lay just beyond, and this area is called "Black Bear Grove" for a reason!  As this corner of the property is adjacent to the rocky cliffs leading down to Glade Creek, this spot is a naturalist's paradise - set up a blind or a tree stand and watch for bear, foxes, deer, and everything else that loves to cross and bed down here.

There are some trails already in place, with the potential for miles of additional ones for days of ATV or horseback adventures.

Southern West Virginia is known for its mountainous terrain, but Autumn Trail is locally famous for how unusually level its fields are.  In fact, small planes have made emergency landings here more than once when the need for somewhere flat arose in a hurry!  If you are a pilot, picture this: head home from work in the city early on a Friday, hop in your Piper, fly in over the pond, and land on a private 2000-foot strip.  Pull into a nearby hangar and take in the beauty as one or two of your friends fly in to meet you for a weekend of fishing, hunting, birdwatching, target shooting, horseback riding, 4-wheeling, or campfire conversations near the porch of your new home.

If it's even possible to get bored in a place like this, head down the road to Babcock State Park, New River Gorge National Park, the Hatfield and McCoy offroad trail network, Winterplace Ski Resort, or one of many other local attractions for Bridge Day, hiking, rock climbing, camping, whitewater rafting, kayaking, and more!

**The "calculated area" of this property is over 75 acres, as listed on Fayette County records.  The "assessed area" (for taxation purposes) is 70 acres.  The last survey was done over 50 years ago, and more modern methods exist now.  If the exact size is important to you, or if you wish to build or clear near a property line, we recommend having your own new survey done.
